I have an idea

We all have ideas. Some are small, some are big, some work well and some never see the light of day. There are ideas that we like and there are those that we dislike. There are ideas we rally behind, ideas we rally against, and ideas that we don’t pay much mind to.

Ideas form a large and prominent part of our lives. How we react to an idea can direct or redirect the course of our life. It can affect many people in many ways.

Let’s take religion as an example. The initial idea behind it is sound. Elements such as compassion and understanding are encouraged and forwarded. Good stuff.

But what happens as time progresses? Other ideas either become attached to this original idea or alter it to fit their own preferences. Oh, it’s just a little alteration, it wont matter…

Over time what we end up with is an idea of an idea (of an idea of an idea of an idea…) and the result is certainly different from the original intent. We have different branches of the same religion who separate from each other and are certainly not compassionate or understanding to one another.

Do people feel the need to add their own personal touch to something which already exists? What if this need is further fuelled by those who claim to follow an idea but decided to deviate for whichever reason? Perhaps somebody was wronged by another who strayed from the original intent.

Their reasons may be sound. They may well believe a tweak here or there would make things better. However, consider what happens when numerous people all do the same thing. The original idea gets lost. It ends up becoming what people want it to be instead of what it is.

I believe that we are all supposed to have ideas. I don’t think it’s by chance that we create as much as we do. I believe the imagination is important.

I believe that we should work with the constructive elements in peoples ideas. If we find suitable middle ground and work together instead of pulling away in our own directions then we will be more progressive.

I believe that if we were to harness the power of our ideas instead of ignoring or destroying them that more and more ideas can grow into something amazing which is beneficial to more and more people.

If we are created this way - to have ideas - surely there must be either a reason for it and/or a way we can work with it in order to grow. So long as we put our own benefit first others will suffer for it. When we work towards mutual benefit then we all benefit much more.

I have an idea: If we can all find a way to make our ideas work together in a unified direction then the world will be a much better place for us and our children.

I believe that it can be done. Despite how different and separate we may first appear to be, we all follow similar rules. With time, effort, and understanding, we can resolve our differences. All we have to do is be open to each other (honest two-way communication), be respectful of each other’s beliefs (whether we agree or disagree),  and be constructive.

So now that I have given you this simple idea my challenge to you is to find a way to implement it. Try it between two people to start with.  See what happens.

All I ask is that you keep the original intent intact regardless of what improvements you add to it. A seed can grow into many things but it still must start off as a seed.
